Local Resources
Here are local resources available to help your tobacco quit journey, in case you’re looking for some extra guidance and support.
- Wellness Services' (Flint): Tobacco Reduction Program on the website. We serve HIV+ clients in access to tobacco reduction one-on-one consultations as well as group meetings. We also have a brochure for community support groups that are open to all people. We offer guidance via the 5 A's and creating linkages to client's primary care physicians to help them assess what NRT's best work for the individuals. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. We are located at 311 E. Court St, Flint, MI 48502. We have a website that is being updated which is wellnessaids.org. I would also be interested in seeing the information that you collect. We are also trying to link local resources to our own website by the end of December.
- Access Health (Muskegon): Monthly tobacco cessation classes for Access Health clients or free to the public with 12 hours of volunteer time. Call Amy Forward at 231-766-7101.
- Freedom from Smoking Class (Muskegon): Held two times per year. Call Cyndi Powers at 231-672-3211.
- Quit & Fit (Muskegon): Holland Community Hospital provides $45 four-week classes with scholarship program. Call 616-394-3344.
- Lakeshore Lung Association in collaboration with Knowsmoke Coalition: 231-672-3211.

- Nicotine Anonymous (East Lansing): Tuesdays at 8pm. Engineering Building, MSU Campus, 428 S. Shaw Lane, Room 2320, East Lansing. Parking off Farm Lane.
- Michigan Braille and Talking Book Library: A variety of materials to help people quit tobacco are available free of charge to those who utilize the talking book services of the State of Michigan. Call to order the most appropriate materials: 1-800-992-9012.
- Public Health Delta-Menominee plans to offer Freedom From Smoking classes 3x/year (January, Spring, Fall) in Delta County and 1x/year in Menominee County (January). - The Tobacco and Nicotine Treatment Program (TNT) is offered through Corewell Health. It is a virtual program designed for ease of access that is offered at no cost to all Corewell Health patients, employees, and community members throughout the state of Michigan. All programs are led by trained Tobacco Treatment Specialist or Tobacco Treatment Specialist/Certified Health and Wellness Coach and are available to those desiring to quit their addiction to nicotine, whether smoking, chewing, or vaping. Our target is to provide cessation to anyone who wants it and boasts a 29% quit rate. The TNT series includes:
Let’s Talk Tobacco- a 4-week series that provides the most current information around nicotine addiction, approved cessation medications, quit strategies that work, and stress management, all in a no pressure, supportive environment. It is a standalone program or prerequisite for Let’s Quit Tobacco.
Let’s Quit Tobacco – a 5-week group coaching series for those who have completed Let’s Talk Tobacco and are ready to make a quit attempt in the next 4-8 weeks. Let’s Quit helps participants develop enhanced skills, motivation, and confidence to quit in a supportive environment with others on a similar journey.
Let’s Stay Quit – twice monthly support group sessions for those completing Let’s Quit Tobacco that focuses on tips for coping with cravings, stress management, and avoiding/managing slips and relapse.
Participants can self-refer through our online registration center or can be referred by a Corewell Health provider. - Tobacco Free for Good: Offered by Metro Health (W. Michigan) in six sessions for two hours. To register, call 616-252-7117.
- Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians offers cessation services for tribal members (and I believe family of members and Sault Tribe employees as well). Anyone interested in that program can contact the Sault Tribe Nicotine Dependence Program at (906) 632-5210, or they can contact their local tribal health center. - Bay Mills Indian Community Health Center also offers tobacco cessation - they will accept any patient. They can be reached at (906) 248-5527.
- Henry Ford Health System (SE Michigan): Henry Ford Tobacco Treatment Services offers programs to help patients quit using any type of tobacco. Based on years of research and experience, Henry Ford's quit-tobacco programs make the process of giving up tobacco easier by providing the treatment needed to overcome the physical, emotional, and social dependency on tobacco. Patients learn how to prepare for quitting, deal with nicotine withdrawal, overcome cravings, and most importantly how to quit tobacco for good.
